RCIC Conducts Field Data Gathering for Coffee Research

The Regional Coffee Innovation Center (RCIC) of Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) conducted a series of field data gathering activities as part of its research project entitled, "Integrated Nutrient Management for Productivity, Quality, and Economic Performance of Arabica Coffee under the Mt. Apo Conditions." The activities were conducted on July 8 and July 24, 2026, at the coffee research site in Sitio Bacoco, Barangay Kapatagan, Digos City, Davao del Sur.

The activities were undertaken through the collaborative efforts of the center's personnel and the On-the-Job Training (OJT) students from the DSSC Agroforestry Department. The team collected data on the coffee trees' growth performance and economic potential under various integrated nutrient management treatments using the project's established monitoring and evaluation protocols. These activities form a vital component of the project's monitoring and evaluation process, providing empirical data necessary for assessing the effectiveness of the nutrient management interventions implemented in the research site.

The results of the data gathering will serve as a scientific basis for developing improved nutrient management strategies aimed at enhancing coffee productivity, improving bean quality, and increasing the economic viability of Arabica coffee production under the unique agroecological conditions of Mt. Apo. The findings are likewise expected to contribute to the formulation of sustainable coffee production technologies that can be adopted by local coffee farmers and other stakeholders in the coffee value chain.

Through sustained research, innovation, and field validation, the DSSC Regional Coffee Innovation Center remains steadfast in its commitment to generating science-based solutions that advance the competitiveness, sustainability, and long-term development of the Philippine coffee industry.
